what are some of the more popular jobs jws seem to flock to in your opinion?
personally, the latest trend in my area is school bus driver as well as school bus monitor.
i can think of six jws who drive school buses and two who are monitors.

i was asked by my mother today "are you going to the memorial this year".
i declined most graciously and said thank you for thinking of me, and although i haven't been for the last eight years i thought no more of the ritual invitation.. then suddenly it dawned on me that my mothers response was quite abrupt and something along the lines of "well i have done my christian duty by asking you".
it was if she was literally washing the blood from her hands and she had tried to save me yet again.. has anyone else experienced this my mother has always talked to me with all civility about the "truth", i just wondered if there is new counsel now in how to deal with daughters and family that have fallen by the wayside.. appreciate your help.

This will be our first year missed. We went last year even though we were on our way out.
As for your discussion with your mother, I'm sorry she was that short with you. My husband's family has been very upset and even cried over our leaving but my family has been nothing but hateful and uncivil when discussing the religious aspect of our relationship. They take it personally that I'm making the stand that I am and they keep saying things like I'm saying they're wrong and mislead. I haven't said any of these things to them but they are very defensive. I see this attitude with your mother, I think. Maybe she's trying the guilt trip ,self-righteous stand? I don't know, but I am sorry. Stephanie
on a number of occasions over the years, although not recently, i've seen jw's turn up their noses at my copy of desiderata that hangs inside our house.. the only comment i've managed to elicit has been a snorting "humph"!.
do they perceive it as a threat do you think?.
it is after all, a wonderful piece of writing that has an appeal to both christians and atheists generally.. i like it, don't you?.
Until this morning I had never heard it. Now I that I have, I understand why I never had: It is beautiful but goes against their teachings. I also think it is too deep for them. To really understand it requires the deep thought they are forbidden to have. It's sad.

Good morming ALLLL Okay, as far as location goes, according to the ones who'll say where they're from, We guesstimate Tennessee'll be about centrally located. Is Chattanooga, or the surrounding areas, too far for anyone? Those still incognito locationally just say yes or no and we'll adjust. Also, how soon and would a big cookout sound like a plan? Input!!! Please. Thanks and Have A Great Day!!!!!
how are you financialy?.
i don't know if i am am a typical brit, but i guess i am a fairly typical rags to riches storey.
i have just managed to finish paying off my house at age 32 after growing up a pioneer penny-less until 22, meaning now i can save for the future and buy stuff i want, but until now it's been a strugle.
DustyB!!!! That was awesome!!!!!!!! As to the financial question, we are just now starting to catch up after years of buying into the live a simple life s**t. "Your credit doesn't have to be perfect because we won't be in this system much longer." Anyone else hear that one? How about," Pioneer and Jehovah will bless your efforts?" Should have asked "will Jehovah pay my electric bill?" By the way, the answer is NOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Tried to live the life of a perfect new dub family... Husband : ministerial servant, reg aux pioneer, self employed (but turning down any questionable jobs so as not to OFFEND ANYONE in the cong. (by the way, THAT"S IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!) Wife: caring for our two small children, also reg aux pioneering. Jehovah of course, did not "bless our efforts and take care of us" , instead, it has taken forever just to get our heads above water! Because of not accepting certain jobs...anything to do with the churches, disfellowshipped ones, the military, or even people that others had a problem with personally, of course, work stopped coming in. We were given the "Satan's attacking you" crap, AND the "Jehovah's testing you" crap, also the "wait on Jehovah" crap So now we're stuck in sh*t. Does anyone else have a similar experience?????
i was on my way to work today when i see something in the road...looks like a dead bird.people are just passing by it, one car almost hit it...again.there are two older ladies on the side of the road that look upset..one is crying.so i stop and i see that it is a duck.the ladies tell me they saw it get hit by a car.i walk over to the duck and scooped it up thinking i will just get it out of the road.there is a nearby pond so i go over to it, lay the duck near the edge and it starts to move...more and more.
it stands up and shakes out its feathers and staggers closer to the water and jumps in and swims away.the ladies come up to me and start hugging me and telling me i saved the duck.what a great feeling!!
any simular experiences?.
My wife is a sucker for critters, so naturally we have stopped to save virtually every animal known to man at some point or another. Lets see, there was the hawk, the baby owl, the baby squirrel, the cow, zillions of turtles and snakes, a few injured dogs and cats, and the list goes on.
I was driving home from work a few years ago (on my way to the book study, no less ) and a very brief but intense thunderstorm had just rolled through. In this particular area of the interstate I was on, a storm drain in the media of the interstate was overwhelmed by the flash flood and about 6 inches of water covered about a 200 foot stretch of the interstate. The car a few hundred feet in front of me hit it and immediately disappeared in a huge explosion of water. I, and the cars behind me, Immediately began braking and were able to slow down enough that the water didn't cause us to hydroplan, but that first car had spun out and shot into the 20 ft deep storm culvert running beside the interstate at highway speeds. I saw the car disappear into the deep ditch and then saw the tail end of the car bounce back up into the air before it disappeared for good into the ditch. Several of us stopped and ran to the ditch. The car was on its side, drivers side down, in about a 6 ft deep raging river of storm runoff. The water was so deep, and moving so fast, that it was banging the care between the two sloped concrete sides of the storm culvert, and gradually pushing it down stream. The water was so deep that sometimes the car would completely disappear under the waves of water. Two construction workers got to the car right before I did, and they jumped onto the passenger side (now the top) of the car. The car was rocking so I stayed on the concrete slope and held the arm of one of them to steady them on the rocking car. The woman driver was incoherent and almost unconscious, so we couldn't get her to roll the passenger window down or even get out of her seat, so one of the men took off his shirt and wrapped it around his arm, and with his covered elbow broke the passenger door window. He leaned in and somehow managed to get her out of her seatbelt and to a standing position, with her head and shoulders out of the broken window.
All this time the car is being knocked around, so the other guy and myself are trying to steady the car and the main guy working with the incoherent woman. We all manage to eventually get her dragged out of the window, across the side of the car and back to the bank of the big ditch. She is cut up and bruised in a few places, and is hysterical and incoherent (have I used that word enough yet ), but otherwise seems OK. The second worker leans into the car and tries to see if there are any other occupants, and there aren't. So he grabs her purse and gets off the car and back to the bank. It couldn't have been more than a minute later, and the water rolls the car over and upside down so that it is completely under water. Over the next 30 or so minutes, while the rescue squad arrives and takes care of the woman, and the police take reports, the water carries the car, completely submerged, another 20 or 30 yards down the ditch.
I went on to the book study, and walked in about half-way through, with mud up to my knees and a little blood on my shirt, half soaked all over from standing in the light rain after the storm for 30 minutes with the injured lady then the police doing their reports. Remember, this is the book study, supposedly a less formal and more personal meeting. The conductor, Brother Anal-by-the-book, gives me this dirty look, and half the others look at me with wierd looks on their faces. No one so much as asked me what happened, or even gave me a normal look, until after the book study was over and I had a chance to explain what had happened. What Jerks!! Wasn't it obvious that I had just been through something traumatic, but I was doing my JW duty and coming on to the meeting. I even commented a couple times, although I was still a little shaky from the event. Looking back, It is hard not to beat myself up for not seeing sooner how uncaring and judgemental these people were.
Anyway, that's my story. All these others so far have been a wonderful read. And the JW's think they are the only ones who have LOVE! What self-righteous hypocrites!!!!!

reading a number of posts here it seems like a fair amount of posters are still into and pushing the christian philosophy.
i would like to start a discussion here that objectively examines the evidence and not base a belief on "blind faith".
after leaving the jdubs, i have read a number of books over the past few years.
I have not seen any convincing evidence that Jesus did not exist. Please present evidence he did not exist.
With all due respect, that is some really strange logic. That's like saying "provide convincing evidence that fairies don't exist." You can't provide "evidence" that something DOESN'T exist. You can, however, attempt to find, unearth, discover, or reveal "evidence" that something (or in this case someone) DID exist. And therein lies the problem with Jesus. The only known evidentiary data that he DID exist is the mention of him by name in the writings of the Jewish historian Josephus. However, as somone in this thread has already pointed out, that piece of evidence has been called into question by various scholars.
Therefore, it is a FACT that there is NO reliable "evidence" that proves Jesus was a real person.
Hence, the skeptical disbelief of so many here on the forum. However, if you want to believe in fairies, whether or not we can prove they don't exist, is entirely up to you.
Best regards,
Brandon
